General Theories

The Depths

A theoretical plane of existence from which all darkness originates.

See Also: "Submarine Castle": Castle Town is in the The Depths, unlike other Dark Worlds, and it is this that makes it "pure" and fundamentally different. I did like, a whole video on this one. Go watch it here.

Dustner

A Darkner born from the Dust oflightner, generally believed to resemble that lightner.

Direct Player Diagesis

The idea that the player- the IRL, actual human being at their computer, playing Deltarune (2018), is actually canon to the lore and story of Deltarune.

Indirect Player Diagesis

The idea that the player- the IRL, actual human being at their computer, playing Deltarune (2018), is NOT canonical to the lore of Deltarune- the Red SOUL is just an in-universe character that the player non-canonically controls.

Third Entity Theory

There are three entities inside of Kris:

• Kris
• The Player Entity
• Some Unknown third entity

(Evidence for this, and who this third entity might actually...be... varies person to person. It is generally rejected by most people because it muddies Kris` character. I`m including it here because it`s a vaguely common topic.)

COOL TERMS

"Andrew's Razor"

"If it makes the story worse, it's not worth considering."

Example: "Counterpoint; Andrew`s Razor. Kris having three SOULs would be out of nowhere and detract from Kris` character."

Jevil's Advocate

To defend a theory you personally find mockably bad for the sake of fair argument; to argue for an idea that you hate because you realized it has more credence than you thought.

Example: "Well, to play Jevil`s Advocate, it...IS actually technically conceivable that Kris is the only person in hometown that can talk to Asriel. It`s still unlikely, though."

Gaster Fallacy

WHen someone is too confident in information that is not outright confirmed; to forget what's certain and what's not

Example: "But We know that Dess is in The Depths!" would be Gaster Fallacy. Other examples would include believing that Gaster is 100% a Skeleton.

CLIFF

CLIFF, Too, is an Acronym
It stands for

It is an important principle that we must remember. Chara's lore is so ungodly fucked in ways that no mortal can withstand.

Bread's representative

To propose an idea only for the sake of speculation, and not because you actually necessarily believe it to be valid; to propose a wild hypothesis to analyze just for the sake of seeing if it`s worth looking further into or attempting to actually justify

BRIX'S THEORY DESCRIBING TERMS

Theorym

A "theory" but in the more scientific sense of the term- consistent beyond reasonable doubt; an idea that, while not technically absolutely confirmed, is way too consistent to be worth debating, and is generally accepted as true.

Example: "Kris is possessed by the Red SOUL in some way" is an example of a Theorym. It is technically never explicitly stated as absolute fact, but it is so consistent beyond reasonable doubt that to call it a "Theory" would be silly.

Hypotheory

A hypotheory is a theory that`s based mostly on its consequences as an explanation for weird behavior,but has little to no evidence pointing toward it.

Example: "A Third Entity exists because Kris makes a fountain in the weird route" is an example of a Hypotheory. It explains a weird detail, sure, but there`s little evidence actually pointing to it. (For the sake of this example, please assume there`s no evidence for Third Entity outside of the Weird Route argument. Please.)

Thunch

A theory that is theoritically conceivable but lacks actual evidence- basically just a hunch. A guess.

Example: "Gaster is Sans` and Papyrus` dad"is an example of a Thunch. While we can decently accurately guess that Gaster is somehow related to Sans` and Papyrus`- potentially even in terms of biological relationship- the specific idea that Gaster is their father specifically is basically just pure speculation.
